Episode Summary:

Welcome to today's episode of the Resilient Fertility Podcast. Today, we're going to be talking all about why every woman should prioritize attaining optimal fertility, regardless of whether you're trying to conceive or not. Your fertility is not just about baby-making; it is a reflection of your overall health and well-being.

How I Knew it Was Time to Focus on My Own Fertility:

Back in 2011, when I was first entering my undergrad program to study nutrition and exercise science, I ironically was in the worst place I've ever been in my health. Though I wasn't interested in getting pregnant at the time, my fertility was far from optimal. I struggled with extreme fatigue, carb dependence, fainting upon standing up, pre-period breast tenderness, intense hanger, and more. It wasn't until I met my husband, a Naturopathic Doctor, that I realized these symptoms were not normal. He showed me the path to address the root causes of my challenges and optimize my hormone resilience.

The Trend I Noticed in Clinical Practice:

When I began my nutrition practice at an integrative medical clinic in 2015, I noticed a trend among women dealing with hormone imbalances and fertility issues. Many of them shared similar symptoms like irregular cycles, acne, and heavy periods. It became evident that addressing their diet and lifestyle was key to restoring their hormonal balance.

The Impact of Hormones Beyond Reproduction:

Your hormones impact every body system, not just your reproductive health. Achieving hormone balance is crucial for maintaining optimal brain health, bone health, heart health, skin health, thyroid/metabolic health, gut health, and disease prevention.

The Importance of Ovulation for Optimal Health:

Ovulation is not only essential for women trying to conceive but also for overall health. Ovulation plays a significant role in regulating the menstrual cycle and is a sign of hormone balance. It ensures healthy hormone levels, including progesterone, which supports emotional stability, sleep quality, and bone density.

Steps to Regain Hormonal Resilience:

To support hormone resilience, focus on blood sugar balance, gut health, and detoxification. A personalized approach is essential, as each person's body has unique needs and requirements.

Balanced Hormones and Optimal Health:

Balancing your hormones can lead to various benefits, including consistent energy, stable mood, improved sleep, healthy skin, and a strong libido. It also supports bone density and heart health, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease.

The Link Between Hormones and Fertility:

Optimal fertility is a reflection of optimal health. Balanced hormones increase your chances of conceiving, carrying a healthy baby to term, and maintaining ample breast milk supply. Preparing your body for pregnancy is a key aspect of your fertility journey.
